A recently renovated characterful two bedroomed detached cottage (sleeps 4) in a secluded yet accessible corner of the National Park.
Even regular Exmoor visitors are unlikely to have heard of Exton. But that’s because those of us in the know want to keep it to ourselves!
Located on a steep hillside in this tiny historic village, The Old Malt House’s setting offers the perfect balance of rural yet accessible. The only noise comes from the pheasants that frequently meander through the village and from the sheep and cows that graze on the nearby farm. A short stroll down the hill takes you to the village shop, pub and bus stop.
The delightful small market town of Dulverton is a 15-minute drive away and has a range of independent shops, including greengrocer, butcher, bakery, craft and gift shops and several tea rooms, pubs, and restaurants.
There are excellent walks and cycling from the doorstep, including circular pub and tearoom walks. The local bus service also facilitates a host of point-to-point walks. The coastal town of Minehead, with its sandy beach and many amenities, is a 25-minute drive away, whilst the dog friendly beach at Dunster is 20 minutes’ drive. Dunkery Beacon and Tarr Steps are within a 15-minute drive.
The cottage has been fully modernised whilst retaining characterful period features such as exposed beams, inglenook fireplace and original well hand pump. The main living area is open plan, with ample seating, a 50″ smart TV, inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove, a dining area and well-equipped modern kitchen. The two bedrooms (one with King-sized bed and one twin room) and the bathroom are accessed from an internal hall at the far end of the living area.
From the kitchen area, a few steps lead up to a games room housing a table tennis table and from here there is an external door opening onto the garden. This is private and enclosed with lovely countryside views and enjoys all day sunshine thanks to a south westerly aspect.
There is off road parking for two cars and secure storage for bicycles, fishing equipment etc. Dogs and children are welcome.
