Things To Do Near Dunster

Looking for things to do near Dunster? Well it’s your lucky day! This medieval village and the surrounding area offers plenty of activities and experiences  suitable for everyone.

Approximately 1 mile away is Dunster Station on the West Somerset Railway, a 20-mile heritage railway which runs from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard.

From the village you can take a number of stunning walks into the Exmoor hills and explore Conygar Tower and the Iron Age Heritage at Bat’s Castle. If you are lucky you may catch sight of a Red Deer or Exmoor Pony! England’s Tallest Tree is in walking distance, as is the start of the South West Coast Path at Minehead and the new Steam Coast Bike Trail.

The large priory church is in the centre of the village and has a carillon of bells which ring every four hours. Nearby is the Dunster Working Watermill and close to that is the ancient Gallox Bridge, a pack-horse bridge over the River Avill. Why not take a stroll around the Memorial and Village Gardens, or let the kids paddle in the river or let off steam in our award-winning Packhorse Playground?

Dunster Museum houses a brand-new exhibition space documenting Dunster’s 10,000-year history. There are many interesting items to discover, including Roman pottery and brooches found at Dunster Beach. It also houses the largest collection of dolls outside the V&A!
