Looking for some ideas for a weekend away? Here’s a few to get you started….
Get Wet: If it’s hot, there’s no better way to cool off, and if it’s not, you might as well get wet anyway. If you’ve not tried SUP yet, you’re in for a treat. All you need is a little balance and a good sense of fun! Suit up and give it a go. Try Exmoor Adventures, Channel Adventures and Wimbleball Lake for this and more watery fun.
Hop Aboard: Marvel at the machinery, enjoy the views and come along for the ride. You can climb 500 feet powered only by water on the Cliff Railway at Lynton/Lynmouth, take a short, narrow-gauge train ride from Woody Bay Station on the Lynton-Barnstaple railway or settle back for a trip back in time on the West Somerset Steam Railway. Take your pick.
Escape: Discover Exmoor off the beaten track and find places and things that you might not come across by yourself. Our local guides know a thing or two about the area that will really enhance your understanding and appreciation of Exmoor. Contact Exmoor Wildlife, Red Stag Safaris or perhaps West Country Farm & Food Tours for a peek behind the farm gate.
Shake hands with Exmoor’s newest statue ‘The Walker’ at Lynmouth – commissioned to highlight the end of the Coleridge Way and the Two Moors Way as well as marking the intersection with the South West Coast Path; the longest national trail in the UK. All this means that you can walk in any direction (apart from seawards obviously) and for any length of time, and be guaranteed a great walking experience.
Watch the Birds: The Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre is tucked away near the coast just outside Porlock – a beautiful spot to have a wander, absorb the peaceful Owl Garden and be inspired by the amazing birds. You might even be able to fly an owl to your gloved hand, depending on availability. Light lunches and cream teas are available so that you can enjoy your visit even more.
We’ve plenty of places to stay too, from lovely hotels to cute cottages, glorious glamping and camping under the stars. Come and Visit – we’d love to see you.
