This ancient standing stone dates back to the 6th century and is thought to have been erected as a memorial to someone who claimed to be an ancestor of Caratacus. 

This ancient standing stone dates back to the 6th century and is thought to have been erected as a memorial to someone who claimed to be an ancestor of Caratacus. In 1906 a stone shelter was built over the stone. The stone can be found just off the main road (B3223) that crosses Winsford Hill, near the cross-roads called Spire Cross with side roads going to Winsford and Tarr Steps.
