South West Lakes Trust launches ‘Play and Explore’ Campaign
Regional charity South West Lakes Trust have launched the first of five campaign themes which underpin the work of their charity and people.
The ‘Play and Explore’ campaign is summed up in a short video showcasing the importance of reconnecting children and their families with the outdoors through play.
It is becoming ever more difficult to give children access to outdoor learning spaces – be that through formal education or visits with their families. Natural England’s ‘Monitor of Engagement with the Natural Environment’ 2016 survey revealed that over 1 million children in the UK did not visit, or rarely visited, natural places in the last year. South West Lakes Trust have the opportunity to connect more young people with nature, away from the distractions of modern technology and socialising with friends ‘online’.

Through our Play and Explore campaign we aim to provide places for young people and their families to play together and create special memories. From dramatic tors, open moorland and historical ancient monuments to wildlife-rich woodlands, lakes and ponds – the lakes really are the ultimate children’s playground! Your little adventurers will love exploring and discovering all of the fun things to do. Climb trees, build dens, go on a mini-beast hunt, track animal footprints or take to the water and experience something new.
South West Lakes Trust takes great pride in the care they provide to over 40 inland waters, from the tip of Cornwall to West Somerset, ranging in size from 1 to 900 acres! Some sites provide unrivalled public access to watersports, angling, walking and cycling.
