Learn Something New, Get Active and Feel Great on the Stunning Somerset Exmoor Coast

We’ve hand-picked five exciting experiences for all interests, fitness levels and budgets.  Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation or a new challenge you are sure to receive the warmest of welcomes.

  1. Axe throwing at Axcadia, Bridgwater, is a fun, really sociable activity, involving skill, precision and technique. You (or rather I) start off being moderately scared that you are going to wound yourself or others, then end up shrieking with joy when you hit the target!  Your one hour session will be led by the incredibly friendly and professional Caz or Chris who will very gently and patiently take you through health and safety, guide you with great humour through the training and then you get to take part in a game.  Experts are welcome although no experience is necessary as each session is tailored to you and done entirely at your own pace.  It is located in the Activity Warehouse, with a café/bar and other activities including VR and Rifle Shooting.  Open to individuals or groups of up to 30, for anyone over 10 years of age – £20 for an hour.
  2. ChalkUp! Bouldering is a new no ropes climbing experience near Nether Stowey. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced this facility will challenge your mind and body and offers 350 square metres of climbing wall with hundreds of bouldering problems to test your skills, balance and strength.  The routes are regularly updated and with no time limits on sessions, climbers can refine and develop their techniques at their own pace.  There is also a dedicated children’s area.  Afterwards, reward yourself with coffee and cake.  Open 10.30am on weekdays and 10am at weekends.  Each session is £13.50 for adults plus shoe hire and can be booked here.
  3. Yoga with a difference at Spaxton Village Hall, weekly throughout the year, £7 a session. Join Hugh (who has been developing fitness programmes for over 30 years and is also a ballroom dance teacher) for a fun, thorough workout, guaranteed to get you in great shape and improve the quality of your life.  This is yoga but very probably not as you know it, it’s tough and not for the faint-hearted but you will be guided patiently through each move, which can be adapted to your ability and beginners are very welcome.  After 45 minutes you will leave feeling relaxed, invigorated, empowered and a little bit fitter.  Message Hugh to find out more.

Join an introduction to Kayaking session at Porlock Weir, one of the most popular activities offered by Exmoor Adventures. This is a terrific way to learn new skills while enjoying stunning coastal scenery.  Led by friendly, British Canoeing qualified instructors, this two and a half hour experience introduces beginners and over-8s to essential kayaking techniques in the calm waters of the harbour.  You will then be taken on a tour of the picturesque coastline and might even be lucky enough to see a white-tailed eagle or porpoises playing in the bay.  £47.50 for adults, £42 for children.

  5. Want to try your hand at golf? You are spoilt for choice with a variety of courses along the coast offering lessons for visitors:
