Ilfracombe lies to the west of Exmoor and is the largest town on the coast in this area
Ilfracombe lies to the west of Exmoor and is the largest town on the coast in this area. Its attractive harbour is home to Verity, a statue by Damien Hirst. It is also the departure point for Lundy Island. Ilfracombe has a modern theatre which also houses the information centre. The High Street has a wide choice of independent shops, cafes and pubs. There is a stoney beach by the theatre and a sandy beach in the harbour. The Ilfracombe Aquarium is housed in the old lifeboat station on the harbour and tells the life of a stream from Exmoor to the sea. The new lifeboat station is now housed at the back of the harbour allowing for quicker response times.
