Our own Jurassic Coast in West Somerset

We have all heard of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset on the South West Coast Path. But how many of you have heard of the Jurassic Coast in West Somerset? This is actually the same band of rock that crosses Devon and Somerset and comes out on the Bristol Channel coastline. It also holds plenty of fossils. This walking festival walk starts in Blue Anchor on Thursday 5th May, gaining height gently to Chapel Cleeve before reaching the old mineral line. The unique line was built and operated in the later half of the 19th century to carry iron ore from the Brendon Hills down to Watchet harbour. From here it was taken to Ebbw Vale for smelting. There is another festival walk that takes in the upper stretches of the mineral line on Friday 6th May, walk 6C. This walk then reaches Watchet to then follow the coast along our Jurassic coast back to Blue Anchor.
