Discover Exmoor’s Heritage this Autumn

Whether you’ve lived in Exmoor your whole life or it’s your first time to the area, there’s always something new to uncover amongst the region’s historic towns and heritage sites. Go behind the scenes at one of these open days or learn about the region’s ancient past on a guided walk.

Discovering Dunster’s Hidden History – Tuesday 4th October, 2-4.30pm

Join the Exmoor Society on a leisurely amble around Dunster village, marvelling at its historic buildings and uncovering some of its secret places. Round it off with tea and cake in the village. An easy-going 1.5-mile walk, suitable for everyone.

Dulverton, A Town Tour – Sunday 9th October, 3pm

During this gentle stroll around the market town of Dulverton, your local guide will bring the town’s ancient past to life, regaling you with stories of old and teaching you about the town’s medieval history.

Simonsbath Sawmill – Monday 17th October & Monday 21st November

This historic, water-powered mill, located in Simonsbath in the rolling Exmoor countryside, opens its doors for regular demonstrations and tours throughout the month when visitors can watch the wheels in action and learn about the restoration of this beautiful Victorian sawmill.

Cowbridge Sawmill, Minehead – regular dates throughout the year

Dating back to the 14th century, this privately-owned mill is undergoing extensive renovation to bring it back to life, and the regular open days are a wonderful opportunity to see what’s being done, including a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the 700-year old waterwheel, now in operation. Guided tours and blacksmithing demonstrations available throughout the day.
