Hinkley Tourism Action Partnership FREE Digital Online Training Programme - Getting the most from the Coast - why marketing the England Coast Path is great for your business

If you run a tourism and hospitality business along the England Coast Path/South West Coast Path in Somerset or Exmoor and want to find out how you can use it to your advantage this workshop is for you.

In just a couple of hours you will find out how to:
• Get more business out of season to increase your profitability

You will hear speakers from:
• VisitSomerset and VisitExmoor sharing what’s new and how they can help your business

• Specialists offering useful, hands on advice on how to attract this market

You will also have time to meet and chat through ideas with other like-minded tourism businesses.

They will be held on zoom to save you the cost and time of travelling and are open to businesses based in West Somerset and Sedgemoor.

Join us for six individually tailored sessions in this webinar series to discover the new ‘BOOST’ Toolkit, a resource packed with straightforward information and advice for new and existing businesses within the visitor economy.

These 2-hour sessions will feature live working with the toolkit as well as plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate. That means you get the chance to think about implementing the tools for your own business and loads of extra tips and ideas too!

Following the seminar, participants will have the opportunity for an individual session of 1-2-1 support on using the toolkit, as well as access to resources and specialist business support through the Visitor Economy Support Programme (VESP).

Planning for Profit: Wednesday 13 October 2021 @ 11.00

This first session will cover all the foundation steps any business needs for success. We’ll focus on creating effective (and easy!) business plans, understanding your operating environment as well planning your competitive edge.

These might seem basic steps but they can be tough to implement effectively. Luckily, we have the ‘BOOST’ Toolkit and dedicated expertise to help you navigate your way through. There will also be plenty of time for discussion and looking at how you can specifically tailor use of the Toolkit for your business!

Wow Your Customers: Wednesday 20 October 2021 @ 11.00

Taking things to the next level, in this session we’ll be taking a deep dive into the various tools that can help us gain insight into who our customers are, what they want and how we can ensure we meet (and exceed) their expectations – vital stuff!

Again, this will be a session packed with examples, discussion and live working with the ‘BOOST’ Toolkit so you’ll take away some top tips and practical steps to engage your customers more effectively!

Let’s Get Digital: Wednesday 10 November 2021 @ 11.00

Time to think online! This session focuses on ensuring your digital presence really works for you as a business. We’ll cover everything from making sure your website is effective, to tracking performance, SEO and even managing online bookings and distribution channels.

You’ll once again be walked through the ‘BOOST’ Toolkit by a dedicated expert and there will be plenty of time to talk about specific issues and ensure your business’ digital footprint gets a boost as a result!

Delivering Effective Marketing: Wednesday 17 November 2021 @ 11.00

Moving on from the planning, this session gets extremely practical as we take a closer look at all the specific channels you could use to market your business. The ‘BOOST’ Toolkit is full or tools and advice to help optimise just about any channel you could think of, so we’ll be looking at each in turn.

This session will be particularly hands on and provide lots of scope to address issues specific to your business’s marketing as well as seeing the various tools in action!

Grow Your Sales Sustainably : Wednesday 1 Dec 2021 @ 11.00

Lastly (but by no means least) we will look at moving your business on to the next stage. How you can expand what you do, how you can grow your sales, develop new products/services and ensure your business has a sustainable future.

There’s lots to think about here and this session provides the opportunity to not only get to know the Toolkit but also to kick some ideas around that could help you move forward.

Pub is The Hub

Inspired by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in 2001, Pub is The Hub operates as a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation dedicated to improving community services and activities. We offer advice and support to communities who are looking to relocate, re-open or introduce vital services and activities in their local pub, as well as to communities considering the options for acquiring their local pub and the range of responsibilities involved.

We facilitate projects by encouraging and helping communities, pub licensees and other interested parties to connect and share their experiences and work together to support and sustain their local services. We also try to help source local funding opportunities for projects.

The Ambassador Programme - West Coast 360

The Ambassador Programme is an online training course which has been developed by West Coast 360 to assist those working within the hospitality and leisure industries to improve their local knowledge and customer service skills. As well as those who are interested in pursuing a career within the sector. Having good local knowledge and giving excellent customer service are key elements in the experience of visitors and in bringing them back to the area and to local businesses. The aim of the Programme is to ‘create Ambassadors for the West Somerset area and to improve the service that visitors to the area receive.’ 

Heart of the South West Growth Hub

Growth Hub Farming & Food Business Resilience Support. Fully funded one to one advice session with a Business Adviser providing you with an opportunity to speak to an expert adviser about your ambitions. 

This service provides support to farming, farm diversification and food processing businesses with support to help them to build resilience into their businesses and help them to be better able to adapt and respond to changing circumstances such as impacts of EU exit, changes to agricultural support and any other external factors that present challenges and opportunities to the business.

HM Government: Help to Grow

Take your business to the next level with the Government’s new Help to Grow programme. The programme offers two distinct packages delivered through online learning platforms, 1:1 sessions with mentors and a peer network. The Help to Grow programme aims to support small and medium sized businesses to learn new skills, reach customers and boost profits.

Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW)

Funded training to help your business progress – Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a programme developed to upskill employees within small and medium-sized businesses in the Heart of the South West LEP area; Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay. They provide recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance your employees’ skills, increase the competitiveness of your business and boost the local economy. SSW is co-financed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and the European Social Fund.


The SMART SKILLS programme is funded by the European Social Fund and will help businesses across Devon to upskill their staff and advance their business to the next level with a range of no-cost training solutions. We want to ensure as many local businesses as possible are aware of the valuable, fully funded training available to them, especially as we bounce back from Covid-19.

Step Up Somerset

A co-ordinated network of employment and skills support for individuals, employers and businesses seeking support and information in relation to employment, skills, careers and apprenticeships is being rolled out across Somerset under the Step Up Somerset brand to boost existing provision in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
