What a Business should do when a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 is reported

The Somerset COVID-19 Local Engagement Board has devised a Local Outbreak Management Plan for Covid 19 detailing actions to take in the event of an outbreak. 

As part of this work they have worked with South West partners to devise flyers and posters to help you, your employees and customers know what to do when a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 is reported. 

Please download these documents at www.somerset.gov.uk/backtowork and keep them handy.  

  1. Covid 19 Business flyer - contains a checklist of actions for businesses
  2. Covid 19 Accommodation Provider flyer – is specifically for tourist or accommodation providers – please add in your postcode
  3. Covid 19 Visitor poster – to display in public settings i.e. reception/kitchen/toilets/bedrooms for visitors staying in your accommodation to see.  Please add in your contact phone number so visitors can call you if they suspect they have Covid 19.

Do call the Public Health England Health Protection Team immediately for any suspected or confirmed cases on 0300 303 8162 who can talk you through the next steps.

Guidance for Private Hire Vehicles

The Government has published guidance for operators of Private Hire Vehicles and taxis on how to operate in a Covid secure manner. This includes guidance on:
 
- Picking up passengers
- Operating safely while people are in the vehicle
- Taking payment at the end of the journey
- Preparing the vehicle for the next passenger
 

Self-Catering COVID Cleaning Protocols

Guidance has now been released by The Professional Association of Self-Caterers UK (pascuk.co.uk) to help self-catering businesses prepare for reopening. Please see here for more details and the compete cleaning protocols documents. 

The Cleaning and Opening guidelines, (part of the UKH doc that will be released soon) are available at PASCUK Standards. This includes tools such as risk assessment templates. All businesses will need to have completed one in order to sign up to the AA Good to Go, and the AA Covid Ready scheme. The VE scheme will launch when the Guidelines become official, the AA one is live now at www.ratedtrips.com/aa-covid-confident  
 

Maintaining records of staff, customers and visitors to support NHS Test and Trace

Organisations must collect details and maintain records of staff, customers and visitors on their premises to support NHS Test and Trace. Read more here
 
QR Codes and Track & Trace:
Your business must support the Track & Trace system via using the QR code system and supported by a manual record when needed.
Businesses will be expected to make sure their customers are aware of the rules around QR codes by displaying posters and speaking to customers directly.
If individual’s check-in using the NHS COVID-19 app QR code poster they do not need to log in via any other route. Information should be collected by the venue for those people that have not checked-in using the QR poster.

Digital Training: Cosmic

Cosmic are pleased to present a free selection of digital training workshops over the coming months, funded by the Prince’s Countryside Fund. 
 
The range of six workshops are designed to support tourism businesses to enhance their ability to reach audiences and promote their business online. The sessions will dive into topics such as Search Engine Optimisation for your website, making use of Social Media, and enhancing your content with great images and text. 
 
 

The Ambassador Programme - West Coast 360

The Ambassador Programme is an online training course which has been developed by West Coast 360 to assist those working within the hospitality and leisure industries to improve their local knowledge and customer service skills. As well as those who are interested in pursuing a career within the sector.
 
Having good local knowledge and giving excellent customer service are key elements in the experience of visitors and in bringing them back to the area and to local businesses. The aim of the Programme is to ‘create Ambassadors for the West Somerset area and to improve the service that visitors to the area receive.’ Read more and sign up.

Growth Support Programme

If you are a sole trader, micro business or limited company in Devon or Somerset you can register your interest in receiving either 3 or 12 hours of business advice, support and training with the Growth Support Programme. The support on offer is funded by European Regional Development Funds (ERDF) and completely free to eligible businesses in the Heart of the South West area (Somerset, Devon, Torbay and Plymouth).

VisitBritain Covid-19 Consumer Sentiment Tracker

VisitBritain has commissioned a weekly tracking survey to understand domestic intent to take short breaks and holidays. The survey will address: the likelihood of U.K. residents to travel; when and where they plan to go; specific trip details such as accommodation type and activities undertaken and the type of reassurances they're seeking from the sector.

Exmoor Visitor Economy Covid-19 Impact Survey Report - March 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused delays and gaps in tourism data provision for 2020. To address this GTS (UK) Ltd have liaised with clients to carry out online surveys of tourism businesses, assessing the impact of the pandemic on capacity and performance.
 
The Exmoor survey was conducted between February 10th and March 15th 2021. 123 responses were received (although not all answered every question). Please find the Full Report Here and the Summary Report Here
