Guided walks, with a twist!

At Wild About Exmoor we lead guided walks for groups or individuals, to experience the very best of Exmoor National Park, and explore the parts that otherwise you would probably not experience in quite the same way!

We run various events throughout the year, exploring the length and breadth of Exmoor, but can also provide a walk geared just to you and your group…whenever and wherever you would like to go, just get in touch, and we will put some suggestions together.

The Lorna Doone Experience

Literary Footsteps – Exmoor’s wonderful scenery and fascinating history has inspired poets and writers across the world. R.D.Blackmore wrote his epic novel Lorna Doone based on folklore and tales from his childhood. The novel is set amongst the farms and countryside of the Doone Valley, Dulverton and Exford….our home and favourite walking area. We have created a special, full day itinerary for the National Park Experience Collection.

Victorian Exmoor

The twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth have a rich and fascinating history. They are also a fine example of Victorian philanthropy, with great architecture largely paid for by Sir George Newnes, making for a very attractive stroll around this historic area.

We start our tour in Lynmouth at the scene on the disastrous flood in 1952, and ascend to Lynton with a ride on the unique water powered cliff railway (February to November) A spectacular cliff top walk with views to the Welsh coast brings us to “Little Switzerland” and the Valley of the Rocks.

Stargazing in Exmoor’s Dark Sky Reserve: Exmoor Dark skies Discovery Hub

Come stargazing at The Exford Bridge Tearooms. You will have a delicious, seasonal meal cooked by Bruce and Claire, with a fully licenced bar. Then the sociable part of our stargazing evening kicks off with a talk all about stars on their widescreen tv. We will then head out of the weather is clear on a short walk for a laser guided tour of the night sky and telescopic observations using our computer guided “Go To” Telescope. If the weather is inclement, we will stay indoors where we are nice and warm and star hop using the indoor virtual star planetarium.

We meet once a month on a Friday and can host groups of up to 30 people of all ages to learn about the night sky.

During Winter hours, and during the dark Skies Festival in October/November we start at 6pm, rather than 7pm. The Tearooms will be a wonderfully cosy place to spend an evening with a locally sourced supper, our presentation, stargazing and an informal chat about the night skies….no question is a silly question! A short walk in the winter is often fabulous – cold but crystal clear, the skies are dark enough to spot Andromeda, one of our neighbouring spiral Galaxies, on a good night.

We talk about the constellations and planets and explain the use of apps on Android and iOS phones and tablets.. £40 per adult, £20  aged 6 – 15 years. Please bring torches, warm clothing and stout footwear if planning to join the short walk.
