Knightshayes Court, a spectacular Gothic Revival house
Knightshayes Court lies to the south-east of Exmoor, not far from the A361 near Tiverton. This spectacular Gothic Revival house is part of a large country estate with some impressive specimen trees and extensive topiary. The house was designed by William Burges for the Heathcoat-Amory family in the early 1870’s.
The interior is richly decorated with some unusual curiosities such as gargoyles, corbels with the great hall being of medieval design. The rooms are richly furnished and have unusual and intricately decorated ceilings.
Outside the walled garden has been restored to its former glory. It houses some specialist varieties once grown in Victorian times. Take a walk around the gardens and woodlands showing a wonderful variety of habitats.
Finish your visit in the Stables cafe with some locally produced delights straight from the gardens. The Garden Shop also offers a range of produce from the estate and other garden and outdoor goodies. The Gift Shop has a wide choice of local produce to tempt you.
