Take a Swim on the Wild Side

LocationDunster, Dunster

Feel-good front crawl

Discover the feel-good factor of swimming outdoors and you’ll not go back to a chlorinated indoor pool – well not in the summer anyway. Totally refreshing, often exhilarating and sometimes a little tricky to get into, Exmoor has several wild swimming sites along its clear rivers and rocky coastline. Scramble over stones to slip into a small man-made rock pool just off the shore at Woody Bay where you can lie back and be mesmerised at the sheer drama of the highest cliffs in England. Often there’ll be no-one else around. Or search out the crystal-clear rivers like the Heddon Water or the East Lyn where you’ll find plenty of spots for family paddling and cool deep pools for invigorating dips.

Please note: In some locations on Exmoor it may be necessary to get the landowners permission if you plan to go wild swimming, as this can cause environmental damage to spawning ground etc.
