Snowdrop Valley Magic
Every February in a sheltered corner of Exmoor, dainty green heads push their way through the cold earth to warm in the winter sunshine of the Avill Valley. Heralding the beginning of spring, beautiful white snowdrops create an impressive carpet of flowers and their gentle fragrance fills the air. Believed to have been brought to the area by the Benedictine Monks from nearby Dunster Priory, this floral extravaganza attracts visitors from all over the UK. Walk or take the shuttle bus from the local village of Wheddon Cross along the specially marked scenic route to the valley. Back in the village, soup and hot chocolate thaw out chilly fingers and toes.
