If you are coming to Exmoor this May you are in for a treat. The blossom is out, the beech hedges are just starting to turn a glorious green and the dawn chorus is magical. To top it all there is a whole host of activities and events on offer to help you enjoy the outdoors even more this month.
Have a look at our list of events to see what you’d like to do in and around Exmoor in May.
There is a selection of free Guided Walks throughout the month where you will discover some of the fascinating history of the area, as well as understand more about how our stunning natural landscapes were formed.
Families of all ages will enjoy the May Day celebrations at Exford, the Duck Race events and the Combe Martin Seashore safaris. There is the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Spring Gala, the Bampton Spring Festival and family wildflower and butterfly trails at Heddon Valley.
You can lean to build a mini coracle, try sea kayaking or take a boat trip from Lynmouth. Paint in watercolour, follow the Ilfracombe Art Trail or visit a secret garden. For equine fans we have point-to-point racing and the Annual Stallion Parade. And if you are an experienced rider, why not enjoy a canter along the beach?
There’s extreme running, the chance to rock climb in the beautiful Valley of Rocks or the opportunity to fly a bird at the Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre.
And when the evening comes, perhaps take a unique Farm and Food Tour, look for wildlife in the forest at dusk with Exmoor National Park Rangers, enjoy a night at the opera or a talk at the Simonsbath Festival?
All this and so much more this May in Greater Exmoor.
