Easter Holidays on Exmoor

Spring has sprung and the Easter holidays are almost upon us. You may want to take a trip to the Coast or enjoy a Countryside break? Luckily on Exmoor you don’t have to choose between them. One of very few National Parks with its own beautifully rugged coastline, Exmoor also has high moors, deep valleys, forests and rivers to explore. Get outside and discover what Exmoor National Park has to offer at this time of year. Here are a few top suggestions to get you started:

Coast

Surfside Kayak Hire offer escorted kayak tours of Combe Martin Bay to suit all levels of experience from beginners to experts. Explore the stunning scenery along the wild Exmoor coast and look out for local wildlife including seabirds, dolphins, sunfish and seals. Prices from £25 per person for a two-hour tour.

See Lynmouth from the sea on a boat trip with commentary from an Exmoor National Park Ranger as you cruise along the dramatic coastline west of Lynmouth looking for rare nesting birds and marine life. 15 April 2:30pm £20 per person, booking essential via the National Park Centre, Lynmouth or call 01598 752509.

If you don’t mind getting your feet a little bit wet, pop along to the Combe Martin Museum at 1030am on the 8 or 17 April for a couple of hours of exploring the rock pools on a Combe Martin Seashore Safari. £2 per child. Accompanying adults free.

Improve your skills on a Kayak, Canoe or Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) in Minehead Bay. Channel Adventure has 1-hour sessions designed for those who want to develop their skills further, with the help of an instructor. £25 per hour, qualified and experienced instructors will help you build on your knowledge.

Countryside

Get the family together with Exmoor Adventures who offer a range of individual and group outdoor experiences, including a Family Activity Day on 7 April. Tree climbing, archery, axe throwing; it’s all part of the fun with expert tuition and all equipment provided. Adults £35 / Children £25 / Family ticket £100

Meet the Exmoor ponies up close on 14 Apr (11am-3:pm) at the Exmoor Pony Centre. Enjoy pony rides, grooming, craft activities and refreshments. Turn up and take part. (Minimum age for riding 4years, weight limit 12st) Free admission, donations welcome. More information: www.exmoorponycentre.org.uk

Join Exmoor National Park on 17 April (10am – 4pm) for The Big Adventure Day at Haddon Hill. Come and explore the natural world with family games and activities lasting all day. Experience the stunning views and open skies of Exmoor’s moorland. No need to book – this is a free day, but CareMoor for Exmoor donations are welcome.

See owls and hawks and watch a flying display in an ancient setting in Allerford, near Porlock. The Owl and Hawk Centre (opens for the season from 3 April: Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun/ BH) Afternoon visits £10 per adult. Tea Gardens and tea room are open from 12.30 – 5pm, serving delicious Exmoor Cream Teas (cream first!)
