‘Bogtastic’ – South West’s biggest and best bog festival – July 26th

Held during UK National Park’s Week and in the month of International Bog Day, Bogtastic is the South West’s biggest and best bog festival celebrating the special qualities of Exmoor’s bogs, heritage and wildlife. This free ‘drop in’ event will feature the Bogstacle course, stream dipping, live bats, the opportunity to visit one of the South West’s last remaining operational water powered sawmills, and lots more all-weather and undercover activities.

The UK has 20% of the World’s blanket bog and Exmoor National Park has some of the finest and unique examples of bogs in the UK and the Bogtastic festival is a great opportunity to learn more about this special landscape and Exmoor’s amazing wildlife and heritage.

Family Ranger Days at the National Trust’s Arlington Court – July and August

National Trust Ranger Days at Exmoor’s Arlington Court gives families a chance to get outdoors, get a bit mucky and pick up some new skills along the way. Join National Trust rangers for a fun day in the outdoors and learn about the work they do and try your hand at picking up some skills such as shelter building, cooking on a fire, tracking animals, hunting for bugs and more.

Celebrate the 10th birthday of the Exmoor Pony Centre – July 24th

Join in with the Exmoor ponies of the Exmoor Pony Centre to celebrate its 10th birthday. The centre is run by the Moorland Mousie Trust and is located in the heart of Exmoor National Park and provides a permanent and specialised base for Exmoor foals when they arrive straight off the moor. Enjoy fun and games and lots of birthday cake and get up close to the ponies with pony rides and pony grooming.

Geocaching – join the world’s largest treasure hunt on Exmoor

Geocaching is an outdoor adventure where players use a free mobile app or a GPS device to find cleverly hidden containers around the world. There are approximately 3 million active geocachers worldwide with more than 160,000 in the United Kingdom. There are lots of caches hidden all over Exmoor and geocaching makes a fantastic and fun way to explore the national park.
