Tucked away in the picturesque village of Allerford, Cross Lane House is perfectly located to explore Exmoor and the South West Coast Path!
Nestled within the 12,000 acre National Trust Holnicote Estate within the Exmoor National Park, Cross Lane House is a charming Grade II listed building which showcases many historic and original features, which have been dated back to around 1545.
The area is known for is breath-taking landscapes and vast stretch of the picturesque West Somerset and North Devon coast line. Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor, is a short distance away and well worth a visit, as well as Selworthy Beacon which is easily accessible from Allerford. The medieval village of Dunster is just a 10 minute drive away, and if you can spare the time – a trip to Dunster Castle is a must!
As well as plenty of wonderful walking routes, Exmoor is wonderful to explore on bike, horse back and kayak too. Cross Lane House have great relationships with some wonderful local activity providers for you to make the most of the area during your visit to this beautiful corner of the country. It’s an area that just keeps on giving – something worth experiencing for yourself!
Cross Lane House has three en-suite bedrooms which have each been individually and lovingly designed with your comfort and relaxation in mind. Two of the three rooms are dog friendly for those who have a four-legged friend joining them. If you’re considering bringing more than dog, please call Ellen & Billy to discuss prior to booking.
Breakfast at Cross Lane House is a serious affair… The coffee machine will be on and the tea leaves will be brewing.
Fresh fruit, homemade nutty granola, oven baked pastries and a cooked hot breakfast which showcases some fantastic local produce, should set you up for a day of exploring!

With a passion for both seasonal and locally sourced produce, the menus at Cross Lane House offer a hand picked selection of dishes that have all been lovingly pieced together, using the best flavours and ingredients the season, gardens and area have to offer.
Having only launched in August 2020, The Restaurant at Cross Lane House provides a informal and relaxed atmosphere with a focus on personal service. It has quickly become a popular dining destination for locals and holiday makers alike!
With the warmer months pending, Cross Lane House also offers outside dining in the historic surroundings off their ancient cobbled courtyard.
The onsite cosy Bar, although small is size, is big in West Country Character! Proud to serve a range of local spirits, ales, locally crafted cider and a selection of wines – there is a tipple for everyone to enjoy. Did we mention Cocktails? Yes – they do them too!
