Voley Farm is set in a peaceful, secluded valley 3 miles from the North Devon coast in Exmoor National Park. We farm pedigree Shetland sheep, Devon Ruby Cattle and rare breed Gloucester Old Spot pigs. We are happy for you to help us feed the animals. This can be a lot of fun for both adults and children because our animals are very friendly. A river and an ancient woodland of alder trees border our farm.
Our two cottages are completely self-contained and have been converted from a Victorian stone barn. They retain many period features such as high-beamed ceilings, a pair of single four-poster beds made from the old grain bins and an original wooden wall where local farmers scribbled their records of rabbit catches a 100 years ago. The cottages overlook a pretty courtyard with good views across the valley. They are spacious and warm in winter, and light and airy in the summer.
Both have been designed and equipped with a great deal of care to provide everything you need for a relaxed self-catering holiday. Both cottages have two twin bedrooms and one double room, sleeping up to 6 people plus a baby in a cot. Each cottage also has a family bathroom, separate shower room, and a large open plan living area furnished with the original wooden floors, wool rugs, comfortable sofas, colour TV, DVD/CD player, books and maps. Both cottage kitchens are fully equipped (including corkscrew and garlic press) with dishwasher, fridge, microwave, gas cooker etc.
In fine weather you can sit on you patio and enjoy a barbecue and in winter relax by the log fire. Both cottages have central heating. We also provide a laundry room with washing machine, tumble drier, freezer and pay phone and a small games room in a barn.
There are a variety of local attractions for all weathers. You can explore the rugged beauty of Exmoor on the old footpaths, or walk from your cottage door to the seat Heddons Mouth. Riding stables are nearby and you can hire bicycles to discover North Devon’s unspoilt countryside or follow the Tarka Trail.
If you prefer a seaside break there are excellent sandy beaches a short drive away at Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe, which boasts a Blue Flag award for its cleanliness. Lundy Island is a boat trip from neighbouring Ilfracombe. The pretty villages of Lynton and Lynmouth are close by.
Voley Farm is also conveniently situated for visiting the Valley of Rocks or Watersmeet. Many famous National Trust properties and gardens are all within easy reach. There are good pubs and restaurants locally to suit all pockets. Nearby Barnstaple has the famous Butcher’s Row for fishmongers, butchers, delis, local cheeses, organic fruit and vegetables, bakeries etc.
The nearby market town of South Molton is renowned for its farmers’ market, tiny chocolate factory, organic food and craft shop, tearooms and antiques and you can often find a bargain at its local auctions.
