Anchor Cottage

Anchor cottage is in the Minehead harbour Conservation Area and is one of a line of fishermen’s dwellings built in the early 17thC along Quay Street. At high tide the sea reaches the sea wall within feet of the front door. The front bedroom looks directly over the Bristol Channel to the coast of Wales and to the East, the Quantock Hills and the islands of Steep Holme and Flat Holme with superb views over the channel. Blenheim Gardens and Minehead shopping centre are a short and level work away as is the Old Ship Aground public house on the Quay.

Minehead has long been known as ‘the gateway to Exmoor’ and some of the most beautiful and dramatic scenery in the West Country is within minutes access by car or on foot from the cottage. Activities to suit all interests are available in and around the town including riding, golf (18 holes, par 69), deep sea angling, steam excursions on the West Somerset Railway and pleasure cruises on the Balmoral and the paddle steamer Waverley from the Quay.

The cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard and has full gas-fired central heating and hot water. The downstairs accommodation includes a spacious lounge with an open fire, easy chairs, dining table, telephone and 20inch colour TV with Fastex and video recorder. The fully fitted kitchen is equipped with gas cooker, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, washing machine, Russell Hobbs coffee maker and stainless steel cookware. Off the kitchen lobby is a WC and a tumble dryer.

Upstairs is a bathroom (with bath and full shower, shaver point and WC), two double bedrooms, one with a telephone, each containing two 3ft wide single beds, bedside cupboards and clock radios and, for occasional use, an attic bedroom with a 3ft bed, all storage and other facilities.
Steps built into hill at rear of the cottage give access from the kitchen lobby to a secluded patio (lit at night) with uninterrupted views out to the sea.

Every effort has been made to give a ‘home from home’ atmosphere and many basics- such as washing up and other cleaning materials, herbs and spices are supplied for guests use.
