Home > Watchet

The harbour area has always been the hub of the town and it is from here that a lot of Watchet's early prosperity was based. A cyclical decline in coastal traffic led to a call for the port to be closed in favour of creating a Marina.
Watchet is proud of its historical past and it's apparent to anyone visiting the town. It has two museums: the longest established is the Market House museum that celebrates much of Watchet's maritime, industrial and social history. The town's second museum, the Watchet Boat Museum boast's the largest collection of Flatners (flat bottomed boats) in the world. There are a number of events and demonstrations held at the museum throughout the year including the old Watchet tradition of rope making.
