This newly waymarked trail is a 50 mile river valley walk between source and sea along the beautiful River Exe.

From the fast-flowing waters and steeply wooded valleys of Exmoor to the gently flowing and meandering waters leading down to the coast, the Exe Valley offers an immense variety of flora and fauna as it flows through peaceful villages (Exford), busy market towns (Dulverton) and the cathedral city of Exeter.

The route can be broken down into 10 easy sections, each with their own unique features such as views, wildlife and charm. A description and brief overview of each of the sections can be downloaded below.

Stage 1: Starcross to Exeter (8 miles) - The beginning of the route heading northbound along the Exe Estuary.

Stage 2: Exeter to Brampford Speke (5.5 miles)

Stage 3: Brampford Speke to Thornverton (4.5 miles)

Stage 4: Thorverton to Bickleigh (4 miles)

Stage 5: Bickleigh to Tiverton (4 miles)

Stage 6: Tiverton to Bampton (7.75 miles)

Stage 7: Bampton to Brushford (4 miles)

Stage 8: Brushford to Hawkridge (7 miles)

Stage 9: Hawkridge to Exford (8 miles)

Stage 10: Route to Exe Head (optional) (12 miles) - Complete your journey to the source of the River Exe.
