About

Heritage steam railway operating between Minehead and Bishop’s Lydeard, near Taunton. Longest independent railway in Britain, (20 miles).

Enjoy a relaxing trip back to the great days of steam train travel on England’s longest heritage railway. The 20 miles of line take you on a trip between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard along the Bristol Channel Coast and through the Quantock Hills. There is a half-hourly bus service (Monday to Saturday) between Bishops Lydeard station and Taunton, the county town of Somerset.

The ten stations along the route offer a wide variety of things to see and do. The medieval village of Dunster is overlooked by the 1000 year old Castle, now in the care of the National Trust. Washford is the alighting point for Cleeve Abbey (English Heritage) and Torre Cider Farm. Watchet is an ancient harbour town with its marina, narrow streets, independent shops, museums and places to eat and drink. Once into the Quantock Hills Stogumber and Crowcombe Heathfield stations are ideal starting points for walking in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Trains run on selected dates throughout the year and daily from late May to the start of October.
