Oysters were farmed in the bay in the distant past, but over-fishing wiped out the stock. It has taken five years of dedicated work by a group of local volunteers* to bring the project to fruition. The success has been phenomenal, with the production of top quality oysters from the water in Porlock Bay proven to be amongst the highest quality in the country.
There will demonstrations by top local Chefs and local restaurants will be serving special oyster-based delights over the weekend.
High quality local food, drink including Miles Tea & Coffee will be selling their wares and giving their own demonstrations.
The Festival will have a vintage theme and families will be encouraged to attend to enjoy donkey rides, Punch & Judy, treasure hunts and the Porlock Weir International Crabbing Competition. The weekend will begin with the crowning of the first Oyster Queen who will oversee all the proceedings.
There will be live music throughout the two days and a Park and Ride scheme from the village of Porlock down to the Weir a mile or so away. Why not stay for the weekend.

*The volunteers created the first Community Interest Company of its kind in the country, established by Porlock Parish Council who set up Porlock Futures Group to develop new job opportunities in the area.
