Ilfracombe lies to the west of Exmoor and is the largest town on the coast in this area. Its attractive harbour is home to Verity, a statue by Damien Hirst. It is also the departure point for Lundy Island. Ilfracombe has a modern theatre which also houses the information centre. The High Street has a wide choice of independent shops, cafes and pubs. There is a stoney beach by the theatre and a sandy beach in the harbour. The Ilfracombe Aquarium is housed in the old lifeboat staion on the harbour and tells of the life of a stream from Exmoor to the sea. The new lifeboat station is now housed at the back of the harbour allowing for quicker response times.
