Combe Martin

Welcome to Combe Martin

Combe Martin lies on the western fringes of Exmoor.

Combe Martin Bay has a shingle and sand beach when the tide is high, but at low tide there is a lovely sandy beach with lots of rockpools to investigate, making the area ideal for family holidays. There are spectacular views across the bay to dramatic headlands beyond, the small, peaceful cove has changed little over the years.

Things to do

The sheltered bay is popular for kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Hire a kayak or take a tour with Surfside Kayak Hire or OSKC Watersports. You can also hire stand-up paddle boards in the village to paddle around the sheltered bay with a chance of meeting some friendly dolphins.

The South West Coast Path passes through the village offering spectacular walking. Leaving the village towards Lynmouth gives you one of the highest climbs on the whole coast path, up to Little Hangman and then on to Great Hangman, both rewarding you with marvellous views. In the other direction, towards Ilfracombe the path is a little gentler taking you to the sheltered Watermouth Cove and the Watermouth Castle attraction.

Take a trip to the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, a subtropical paradise with hundreds of birds and animals, and animatronics dinosaurs. There is also the Exmoor Zoo to explore.

There is an informative museum highlighting the village’s heritage. And of course, you can just relax in the sun on the beach and watch the sun go down over the horizon in the evening. There is wheelchair access to the beach from the main car park or the road. Combe Martin is creating a new BBQ area which is being built this season at the top of the beach.

Local Food & Drink

Combe Martin offers a number of Inns, takeaway services, tea shops and a fudge kitchen! The Pack o’ Cards Inn was built in 1626 by George Ley of Marwood, to celebrate a large win at cards. The building has 52 windows (one for each card in the pack), 4 floors (one for each suit) and 13 doors on each floor (one for each card in the suit).

Shopping

Combe Martin claims to have the longest main street of any village in the country. The street winds along the valley for more than two miles. The main shopping area is near the beach with a collection of independent shops.
