Quantock Hills

Quantock Hills AONBThe Quantock Hills - a truly stunning AONBQuantock Hills

The Quantock Hills feature magnificent moorlands, gentle valleys and a Jurassic coastline – a fossil hunter’s paradise.

Declared the country’s first ever Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has ancient monuments, superb views and foothills studded  with beautiful unspoilt villages.

It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with 10% of the world’s maritime heathland lying within its boundaries.  Red deer and semi-wild ponies roam freely on the moors.

The hills reach a height of 1,261 feet at Will’s Neck and evocative place names such as Dead Woman’s Ditch hark back to past dark deeds.

Once home to the poets Wordsworth and Coleridge, the hills inspired classic works such as the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan.

Large enough to explore but small enough to be intimate – it is renowned walking, mountain biking and horse riding country.

You are spoiled for choice for accommodation in Exmoor, the Exmoor Coast and Quantock Hills.
