Learn Map Reading in a Fun Way

During the walking festival you can join in on a walk with a difference. The walk is on 6th May at Webbers Post just below Dunkery Beacon. It starts at 10.30am. The difference is, you will be following where you are going on a map. This means that you can get a feel of how the map relates to where you are walking. John, our guide, will be giving plenty of friendly assistance along the way. Part of the reward is a tea stop about half way, although any teas are extra (sorry!). A map can make the countryside come alive, helping answer questions about what you are looking at a little way off, for example. It also can help you from getting lost, or finding where you are should you get lost. This can be done through the lie of the land around you, or landmarks that you can place on the map related to where you are standing. It helps give you confidence to work out walks for yourself and then go and walk them. It is a skill that is very much worth getting, making any walk much more enjoyable.
